Our Kiyomitsu 1095 katana is crafted in the shinogi-zukuri blade style, which was most commonly used in Japanese history. This blade design added edge support, improved edge life, and allowed the sword to survive even harder targets which is why it was a favorite in feudal Japan.  Our swords are made from high carbon steel that provides an excellent dispersion of carbides, resulting in very tough steel with outstanding edge holding properties.  Our blades are hand forged to shape, then, a traditional clay solution is applied and then heated to produce our differentially hardened hamon style.  The hamon is based in toran-midareba that is copied from a famous Japanese sword smith named Harima Daijo Fujiwara Kiyomitsu (1661-1673). The blades are bo-hi with Mei (signature) on nakago and are hand polished with natural Japanese finger stones to bring out the natural hamon and exhibit a crisp geometry of the shinogi and a hand polished yokote with a geometrical change in the kissaki.  Our katana are mounted in traditional Buke-zukuri style with saya mounted in buffalo horn fittings with black polished ray skin and an ishime pebbled lacquer finish. The iron tsuba is a copy from an Edo period antique of a 4 lobed floral sukashi style (cut silhouette) with traditional fine file edge copper seppa.  The fuchi and kashira design are of Higo Take (rim bamboo) and mounted on a haichi shaped tsuka. The tsuka has real blackened samegawa (rayskin) with our unique bamboo & flower crest menuki, traditionally wrapped with dark blue authentic Japanese cotton ito in hineri-maki (diamond) style.   Our swords display features usually found in original pieces, giving collectors and practitioners a unique opportunity to own a weapon of quality.  In Japan it is stated that within simplicity lies great beauty, the bamboo represents strength, endurance, and resilience.
